Tourism has taken a huge hit North Carolina's state capitol as fallout continues from a new law that permits discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau has revealed the controversial legislation has so far cost the city a whopping $3 million in lost business, The Guardian newspaper reports. And the amount is increasing every week.

The law, known as HB2, requires people to use public toilets that correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificates. It also stops local municipalities from creating their own rules banning discrimination in public places based on sexual orientation.

In the past few weeks, rockers Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Pearl Jam and Boston, as well as Cirque du Soleil, have also canceled shows to protest the law.

"We continue to receive concerns from definite and tentative groups regarding HB2," tourist bureau president Dennis Edwards said.

"We also have a great deal of concern about those groups that were going to consider Raleigh and North Carolina but have now taken us off of their list of consideration due to the bill."
