Legendary Golfer Jack Nicklaus Throws Support Behind Romney

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, says he believes as a businessman Mitt Romney understands what it will take to bring the economy back.

“It’s basically the economy," said Nicklaus, interviewed at the opening of the Miami Children’s Hospital’s Nicklaus Outpatient Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. “I think the economy has been atrocious.”

From his own company’s standpoint, Nicklaus said “we have 50 percent less employees than I had four years ago. I’m looking for a future."

Nicklaus said he thinks “President Obama’s intentions were quite good, (but) I just don’t think he had the plans and things to get it done.”

And he doesn’t think another four years of an Obama presidency will be all good.

“I think he’ll do some areas okay,” said Nicklaus of the president. “But in small business and growth of the economy, I think he’s going to struggle. I think we need someone who understands business and how to bring people together.”

Nicklaus noted there’s been a gridlock in Congress for the past four years, but “Romney’s been able to reach across the aisle...Obama’s proven he hasn’t been able to get it done.”

Nicklaus and his wife Barbara have campaigned in their home state of Ohio, a pivotal swing state this election, for Romney. He said if he could, he’d tell Ohio Romney is a decent, moral man who is right for the job.

“It’s the economy, his values,” said Nicklaus. “I think Romney’s family is very much like mine. We both have five kids, he has 18 grandchildren; we have 22.”

He said Romney “looks at God, family and government, in that order,” and “I think his values are very good. I like him a lot. He’s very personable, and he seems to be very caring.”

Nicklaus also wanted to tell his fellow Ohioans if they’re happy with where they are now, they should stay with Obama, but if “you're not happy where you are and you've suffered the past four years you should get someone else in there.”
