The staffs at three struggling MSNBC shows fear they are facing the ax as new NBC News chief Andy Lack starts to shake things up in the left-leaning network, according to Mediaite.

Last month, the executive producers of "Now with Alex Wagner," "The Ed Show" and "All In with Chris Hayes" were ordered to create "sizzle reels" of their best programs.

Although the exercise is supposedly aimed at finding out what works best on each show, Mediaite sources say they could all soon be canceled. And the senior staffs of all three programs are now concerned for their jobs.

The media website has learned Lack is planning major changes to MSNBC's daytime programming, and that he does not defer to MSNBC chief Phil Griffin on programming decisions unlike his predecessor, Patricia Hill.

The report also says that Lack often attends Griffin's morning editorial meetings, and appears "underwhelmed" with the story pitches.

Lack is facing an even bigger task than saving MSNBC what to do about disgraced "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams, who was suspended for six months earlier this year after it was revealed that he had falsely claimed his helicopter had been hit by a rocket during the Iraq War.

"Some suggest he'll try to bring back Williams, but most find that unlikely or nearly impossible," writes Mediaite's Andrew Kirell.

"We have also heard that NBC News has considered a sort of probationary period for Williams in the field, but the longtime anchor might not accept that; and Lack still might not even offer it."
