Convicted Ex-Congressional Candidate Arrested in NH

CONCORD, N.H. -- A former congressional candidate convicted of faking his disappearance is under arrest in New Hampshire for allegedly violating his bail conditions.

Strafford County Attorney Thomas Velardi says Gary Dodds was arrested Tuesday morning near the apartment building he owns in Portsmouth.

He had been out on bail pending appeal of his case.

Prosecutors had asked for bail to be revoked when Dodds' wife reported that he had been acting irrationally and that they had gotten in a physical fight. Prosecutors also say he had been in Florida when he told the court he would be in New Orleans.

Dodds had claimed nearly drowned after a crash two years ago. Authorities were suspicious, though, when only his feet were wet. He was never a serious contender in the election.
