With the country in the biggest budget battle in decades and with military operations on three fronts, President Barack Obama is signaling where his priorities lie — with Oprah!
The commander in chief and first lady Michelle Obama have been invited by TV talk titan Oprah Winfrey to appear on her show in the run-up to its finale.
Winfrey, whose long-running gabfest ends next month, is pulling in big names for her final shows. And despite the crises in Washington, the Obamas jumped at the chance to join them.
The president and first lady will tape the show at Oprah’s Harpo studio on April 27. It will air on May 2.
Winfrey, who campaigned for Obama in 2008, is leaving her syndicated program to focus on her new cable channel, OWN. Her final show is scheduled for May 25.
The White House and Oprah’s publicists jointly announced the appearance, the first time the husband-and-wife team have appeared together on the show since 2006.
During his trip to Chicago, Obama will also attend three fundraisers.
Last week, Winfrey’s publicist Lisa Halliday hit back at an Internet claim that Oprah was losing faith in Obama and would not back him publicly in next year’s election.
“Oprah's support of President Obama has been and remains unwavering since she initially endorsed his candidacy in 2007,” said Halliday. “Any reports that suggest otherwise are untrue."
