3 Injured In Attacks by 100-Strong Teen Mob in Memphis

By    |   Monday, 08 Sep 2014 11:40 AM

Police in Memphis have arrested one teen and are looking for others after a group of marauding youth attacked and injured three people at a shopping center on Saturday — a brazen assault by as many as 100 youths that was captured by bystander video, TV station THV11.com reported.

That video shows a full-scale version of the "knockout" game where assailants seek out a victim and sucker punch that person, a method used in copycat crimes across the country in the past couple of years, the Blaze reported.

Three people were injured — all customers and an employee of the grocery store Krogers, station THV11.com reported of the assaults.

One man was seen being repeatedly kicked in the head and left unconscious on the ground as a woman tapes the attack on her phone, WREG.com noted.

The mob was so large that security guards could not stop it, the TV station noted in its report.

“They followed hitting him with a pumpkin. He was already unconscious, so all you could see was blood and pumpkins,” a friend of one victim who witnessed the attack told WREG. "It was maybe about 100 to 125 kids. It was a lot of kids."

The victims of the attack have been released from the hospital, according to police, who released a statement and are offering money for help in locating the perpetrators. The video is being widely circulated on social media.

One juvenile has been arrested, police announced Monday. He has been charged with aggravated riot and acting in concert: to wit, aggravated assault.

"Last night’s events clearly demonstrate lack of parental controls and if warranted, these parents will be held accountable," said Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong in a statement.
