Ex-Marine to Pay $11K in Recruiting Sex Case

UKIAH, Calif. -- A former U.S. Marine has agreed to pay $11,000 to a woman who accused him of coercing sex during an overnight party at a recruiting station.

The settlement concludes the last of three federal lawsuits in connection with misconduct at the recruiting office in the northern California town of Ukiah.

The woman was 17 at the time. She accused former Staff Sgt. Joseph Dunzweiler of telling her that she had to have sex with him if she wanted to join the Marines. Dunzweiler was acquitted of the charge during his court-martial and didn't admit guilt as part of the settlement reached Monday.

In March, another former Marine was ordered to pay $50,000 to another woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her during the slumber party.

Last year, the Marine Corps agreed to pay $200,000 to the two young women.
