Jackson Jr.’s House Finances Eyed in FBI Probe

Saturday, 13 Oct 2012 10:22 AM

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is the target of an FBI investigation of finances related to his House seat, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Jackson, 47, who has been on a leave of absence from Congress since June for treatment for bipolar disorder, was probed in the past for his links to the scandal surrounding former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich about four years ago. He was first elected to Congress in 1995.

The new finances probe focuses on “suspicious activity” related to his House seat and the possibility of inappropriate expenditures, sources told the Sun-Times

Jackson’s spokesman and his attorney wouldn’t comment. The new probe could pressure Jackson to step aside.

Jackson is up for re-election in November and hasn’t campaigned since winning the Democratic primary in March, the Sun-Times reported. His office initially said he was being treated for exhaustion before coming out with another explanation about bipolar disorder later on over the summer after Jackson attended the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
