Immigration Bill Said to Contain Millions in Lefty Slush Funds

By    |   Tuesday, 23 Jul 2013 06:39 PM

The immigration reform bill now being mulled by Congress contains multimillion-dollar slush funds that benefit left-wing groups, investigative reporter M. Stanton Evans says.

"It’s a stealth operation," Evans told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"These [are] unknown aspects of the bill, which are totally contrary to the advertising."

Story continues below.

Evans, who wrote about the slush funds in Investor’s Business Daily said they are hidden deep in the 1,100-page bill and will help left-wing, nonprofit groups provide services to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants now in the U.S.

The funds would total almost $300 million over three years and continue to grow.

"The slush funds are just part of it. There are at least three different funds that I discovered, all of which are for the benefit of certain special interests that are ‘immigrant-serving’ organizations. That's the way the phrase-ology reads," he said.

"It's a bill that's an intricate network of provisos, exceptions, waivers, rules, regulations — all kinds of complicated legal gobbledygook."

According to the bill, $50 million of the funds will go to nonprofit organizations whose staff has "demonstrated qualifications, experience, and expertise in providing quality services to immigrants."

"They get the $50 million and they will guide the immigrants through the process. And there are two other funds of even larger amounts which are also directed to the same kind of groups," Evans said.

"This makes a lot more sense … when you know that the bill is guided through the Senate by a lady who works for Obama now who is a former official La Raza."

Evans is referring to Cecilia Munoz, former policy director at the National Council of La Raza and now the White House's top staffer on immigration. La Raza opposes current U.S. immigration laws, defends illegal immigrants, and promotes amnesty measures.

Some groups have accused La Raza of promoting illegal immigration and believe the group discriminates in its approach to civil rights.

"It's basically a witch list for these immigrant-serving groups dressed up as conservative legislation," Evans said.

"But all of the conservatism is pretty bogus and the immigrant serving is real."
