Herman Cain: Obama Faces Uphill Battle to Restore Trust

By    |   Monday, 25 Nov 2013 06:04 PM

With a new CNN/ORC International poll showing that more than half the public now views President Barack Obama as not "honest and trustworthy," former Republican  presidential candidate Herman Cain warned that Obama faces an uphill battle.

Appearing Monday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto," Cain said Obama's trust issues go back farther than promising people they could keep their health insurance if they liked it.

It started, Cain said, with the promise that the $800 billion federal stimulus would keep unemployment below 8 percent. Then, Obama vowed in every State of the Union address that he'd have a laser-like focus on the economy.

"But it was the same policies: let's spend more money and let's raise taxes," Cain said. "And now with Obamacare, the deception is so blatant that the entire country is shocked."

The administration's oft-repeated line that Obama didn't learn about various scandals until he saw them in the media has only added to the mistrust, Cain said.

Turning to the presidential prospects of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Cain acknowledged that Christie is well-liked because of his take-no-prisoners approach.

"That's a plus," Cain said.

But he said Christie will face trouble when he, as expected, seeks the GOP presidential nomination.

Taking federal funds to expand Medicaid won't help him nationally, Cain said. The money is only a temporary fix because the state will have to gradually take over the funding, he said.

"The federal government is going to dump you in about three years," Cain said.

"It's great that he's so loved in New Jersey, and that liberals, Democrats, independents and Republicans vote for him and like him as governor, Cain said. "But – I don't mean this in any disrespect – New Jersey is not the rest of the United States of America."
