The young madman who went on a killing spree near the University of California in Santa Barbara was a male chauvinist whose hatred of women triggered his bloody rampage, noted feminist and civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred says.

"It's clear from his lengthy manifesto and from his videos that he suffered from male chauvinism, which is a certifiable mental illness," Allred told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"That is a situation where he views women as sexual objects, as inferior human beings, as people that he's entitled to. He can't understand why he can't have a relationship with them.''

Police say Elliot Rodger, 22, stabbed three people to death at his apartment before shooting and killing three more and injuring 13 others last Friday.

He was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A rage-filled essay and videos posted online by Rodger reveal he was depressed and furious over his lack of success with women and wanted to get even.

"[He] feels very rejected and kills not only random women, sorority sisters standing outside a sorority house … but also men because he's angry at some of the college men that they're able to get women that he can't get,'' Allred said.

Allred said chauvinists such as Rodger are unable to treat women as equal partners and seek to control them.

"Rodger said he was going to get retribution against them because he couldn't have any kind of relationship with them. He didn't know how to be with women. He viewed them as objects to which he was entitled,'' she said.

"The good news is that male chauvinism can be cured. It can be treated.''
