Milwaukee Sheriff: 'Nothing Good Happens' With Al Sharpton

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke on Monday took issue with the Rev. Al Sharpton's claim that officials in South Carolina obtained justice for an unarmed black man killed by police when officials in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City did not.

"A mayor and police chief did what we couldn't get mayors in the North and the Midwest to do," Sharpton said in a North Charleston, South Carolina, church on Sunday.

Sharpton was praising the arrest of North Charleston police officer Michael Slager in the shooting death of Walter Scott, who can be seen on a cellphone video being shot in the back as he flees. Slager has been charged with murder.

Clarke, appearing Monday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File," took issue.

"Every time Al Sharpton opens his mouth, he takes his ignorance to new heights," Clarke said. "Look, they got it right in Ferguson regardless of what Al Sharpton thinks. They got it right in New York, they got it right in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with some similar circumstances."

In the cases cited by Clarke, officers were not charged because they were determined to have taken appropriate actions.

The only reason Sharpton is speaking about the South Carolina incident is that "it's in line with his warped sense of justice," Clarke said.

He also praised the family of victim Scott, who asked Sharpton not to get involved in their case.

"Good for them. They caught onto his shtick, so to speak," he said. "Nothing good happens when Al Sharpton shows up on the scene. I'm glad that they recognize that and told him to stay away."
