Contractor Sentenced in Cunningham Case

SAN DIEGO -- A defense contractor has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for bribing a congressman with cash, meals, trips and other gifts in exchange for nearly $90 million in Pentagon work.

Brent Wilkes showed no emotion as U.S. District Judge Larry Burns delivered the sentence Tuesday in San Diego.

A jury convicted the 53-year-old contractor in November on 13 counts of bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud involving former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

Prosecutors say Wilkes lavished Cunningham with more than $700,000 in perks _ everything from cash to submachine gun shooting lessons and prostitutes at a Hawaiian resort.
