Columbia University reportedly kept 25 percent of the students who signed up to hear conservative filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza speak about President Donald Trump from attending the event.

The school's College Republicans group placed the blame on administration officials for limiting D'Souza's "The Case for Trump" lecture, sponsored by the Young America's Foundation, The College Fix reports.

The College Republicans told the website that university brass kept a lid on crowd size because they feared a repeat of the melee that occurred during an appearance by Danny Danon, Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Danon, invited to speak by Students Supporting Israel last week, was reportedly shouted down seven times by hecklers. Left-leaning campus groups called Danon a "cheerleader" for Trump and the "Republican right."

"The lobby quickly devolved into mayhem as students showed up to check in. Numerous people were told some variation of 'Sorry, you're not registered,' 'Sorry, you're not on the list' and 'If you're not on the list, you can't get in,' when they presented their Eventbrite confirmations," the College Fix's Toni Airaksinen reported.

D'Souza, a documentary filmmaker and author, told later attendees he believed that those who "put Trump over the top are none other than the working-class Democrats."
