Ala. Military Crash Victims Identified

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- The three victims of an Army helicopter crash during a training flight in Alabama were identified Thursday as a company commander, a pilot and a repairman.

Capt. Scott N. Shimp, Chief Warrant Officer 2 David M. Stanley and Sgt. Jeffrey Scott Angel II died when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter struck power lines in foggy weather and plunged into a pasture, Fort Campbell officials said in a statement.

They were assigned to Company C, 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.

The Black Hawk was flying from Fort Campbell to Chattanooga, according to an Army statement. The crash site is about 190 miles southeast of Fort Campbell, which is on the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

Shimp, 28, of Bayard, Neb., was the company commander and a Black Hawk pilot who joined the Army in June 2002. Stanley, 33, was a pilot from Fort Rucker, Ala., who joined the Army in November 2000. Angel, 24, was a Black Hawk helicopter repairman from Gauley Bridge, W.Va.
