GALVESTON, Texas -- A jury has sentenced a young father to 25 years in prison for severely burning his infant daughter after putting her in a microwave and turning it on for up to 20 seconds. The jury also fined Joshua Mauldin $10,000 in the sentence handed down Wednesday. Jurors convicted him Tuesday of felony injury to a child. They rejected Mauldin's claims that he was insane when he put his daughter Ana in the microwave. Prosecutors had wanted Mauldin to be sentenced to the maximum life in prison. His attorneys wanted him sentenced to probation so he could be treated for mental illness.
