NYPost: Cuomo Hampered Early Search Efforts for Prison Escapees

By    |   Monday, 15 Jun 2015 11:22 PM

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo delayed search operations in the early hours after two killers had escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in northern New York because he wanted to take a tour of the escape route, the New York Post reports.

"Cuomo actually disrupted the early search efforts when he arrived at the 'command center' on Saturday and refused to enter the room until everyone was removed except state employees," the Post quoted a law enforcement source. "Cuomo's aides came in and threw out the U.S. marshal, the sheriff [David Favro] and others who were there to help coordinate the search effort."

The source said that the State Police are trying to make sure they are the ones to catch Richard Matt and David Sweat so they get the credit, but by doing so are not using all available assets.

Police are complaining bitterly about the personal involvement of the governor, who insisted at the most crucial time in the search, that the prison officials stop the organization of the search and give the governor a tour, Judge Andrew Napolitano said Monday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File."

"And then the governor … gave the same tour himself with cameras in tow. And none of this could happen until governor was ready, until his political adversaries in the prison system were not there, and until the cameras were there."
