American Airlines Group Inc. is examining another Boeing Co. 777-200 aircraft after passengers and flight attendants fell ill on a second international flight this week.

Flight 904 was en route to Miami from Rio de Janeiro when it diverted to Brasilia after three crew members and one passenger said they felt light-headed, Matt Miller, an American spokesman, said Friday in an interview. Those affected were examined by paramedics at the airport early Friday and declined further medical treatment, he said.

There were 203 passengers and 14 crew members on the flight.

On Jan. 27, an American 777-300 flying from London to Los Angeles returned after two passengers and several flight attendants became sick. American maintenance workers inspected the aircraft and flew it on a test flight without finding any problems, Miller said. Air filters on the jet were replaced as a precaution, he said.  Flight 109 had 172 passengers and a crew of 16.

There’s no indication the two situations are anything other than a coincidence and they are being treated by the airline as separate incidents, Miller said.
