With just three days left in the White House, President Barack Obama has appointed senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and national security adviser Susan Rice to the board of trustees of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Washington Times reports.

These were among two dozen appointments announced Tuesday, including
naming deputy White House national security adviser Ben Rhodes as a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, and selecting White House aide Kristie Canegallo as a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board member.

The Washington Examiner reported Obama also named former NBA players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jason Collins, as well as Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. U.S. Women's National Soccer Team member Carli Lloyd was appointed co-chair of the council.

Another notable appointment was Sen. Angus King to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission.

"I am proud that such experienced and committed individuals have agreed to serve the American people in these important roles," Obama said. "I know they will serve the American people well."
