"You're So Vain," the original song of ex-girlfriend angst found a new audience when Taylor Swift brought Carly Simon upstage at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., to belt out the 1972 hit song.

Swift, who sent out a tweet expressing her admiration for Simon, surprised her audience of roughly 55,000 during her "Red" Tour, reported E! Online. A YouTube video shows the crowd cheering loudly Saturday as Swift prepared to bring Simon on.

"Before I bring out my special guest, I have this question that I always, always had, and I think . . . you have probably had this question, too, and wondered what the answer is," Swift told her audience, setting up her introduction of Simon.

"Who is the song 'You're So Vain' by Carly Simon written about? As if," Taylor said to loud applause. While the answer was never revealed during the performance, fans did not seem to mind during the duet with Swift, 23, and Simon, 68.

"Every girl out there will be thinking of someone when we're singing," Swift told Simon during an interview with MTV before taking the stage. "When I heard 'You're So Vain' I just thought, that's the best song that's ever been written. That is the most direct way anyone has ever addressed a breakup. It's amazing."

Simon said at the time, she had no idea that the song would become a sort of anthem for breakups or its longevity.

"It's a song that really sort of developed that style of mine," Simon said in the MTV interview next to an agreeing Swift. "And a lot of it was not knowing that I was developing that style, 'cause a lot of things happen by accident, don't you feel?"

Simon has always enjoyed the mystery of the song's intended target, using her own website to poke fun at the subject. Included on the "You're So Vain" page are photos of Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens and Mick Jagger with an empty photo slot.

Nataline Finn, of E! Online, though, asked the question probably more pressing on the minds of Saturday's audience:

"But more importantly, who do you think Taylor was singing about on Saturday night?"
