Yankees Fan's Proposal on Jumbotron No Ringing Success

A Yankees fan's proposal shown on the stadium's Jumbotron got complicated when he dropped the engagement ring and spent an eternity searching for it while a crowd of about 35,000 looked on. Things turned out OK, though, because she planned to say "yes" all along.

According to the New York Daily News, Andrew Fox had it all planned out as he and girlfriend Heather Terwilliger sat in Section 228, both wearing matching Yankees jerseys as their team played the dreaded Boston Red Sox. The scorebaord camera was cued (for a $100 fee) and he dropped to one knee in the fifth inning to propose to her.

The ring, however, refused to cooperate. It popped out when he opened the box and disappeared under some seats. The eyes of the entire ballpark were trained on the search for the ring.

"I saw the message on the screen, I was like, baby, stand up," Fox told the Daily News. "She knew what was happening. I was really happy and excited and when I opened the box, everything got crushed. I went from really happy and excited to the most depressed you can be in like a second."

The search was televised by the Yankees' YES Network between pitches, said The Associated Press. The hunt under the seats grew tense and Fox even began to cry.

Several other fans joined the search, some using lights on their mobile phones.

The ring was eventually found in the turned-up cuff of a man's jeans, but it was the "worst five minutes of my life," said Fox.

"Everyone keeps telling me it was on TV," said Fox. "I wanted it to be on TV, but I didn't (drop the ring) on purpose. That's not how I wanted it to go."

After Terwilliger agreed to the deal the Yankees beat the Red Sox 6-4.
