Prince William and his wife, Kate, will make a two-day trip to Paris in April, nearly 20 years after the prince's mother, Princess Diana, died in a car crash there.

Princess Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul died in a crash at the Pont de l'Alma on Aug. 21, 1997. Her son's visit to Paris, though, is business-related, People magazine reported.

The duke and duchess are making the visit on behalf of the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, serving as unofficial ambassadors in Paris as soft diplomacy as the United Kingdom negotiates its exit from the European Union, ABC News reported.

People magazine said the trip was announced after the royals attended the British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards show.

William and Kate will attend a reception and black-tie dinner at the British ambassador's residence on Friday, ABC News reported. The couple will stay at the residence, which was built in the 18th century and is located close to Elysee Palace, the home of France's president.

The royals are expected to meet with young leaders from arts, sports, and business, among others on Friday. They will visit Les Invalides, a landmark known for its golden dome that includes the Tomb of Napoleon, to support the work of veterans on Saturday, per ABC News.

William and Kate also will meet with survivors and first responders from the July 2016 terror attack in Nice, France, and the November 2015 terror attack at the Bataclan, ABC News said.

BBC News reported earlier this month that William and Kate were scheduled to visit Germany and Poland in July on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Prince William solo traveled to Germany last summer for events honoring the role of British armed forces based in the country.

Kate has yet to make an official trip to Germany and the couple have not toured Poland yet on behalf of the government, BBC News reported.

During last year's visit to Germany, Prince William gave a speech at a gala event alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He said then that the "depth" of Britain's friendship with Germany would not change after Brexit.
