Washington DC Murders: Savvas Savopoulos, Family Held Captive First

The Washington, D.C., murder suspects are on the run as authorities continue to investigate the brutal killing of CEO Savvas Savopoulos and his family, who were reportedly held captive before their mansion was set on fire last week.

Savopoulos, CEO of American Iron Works, his wife Amy, 10-year-old son Philip, and their housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa were all found dead inside the family’s multimillion dollar Woodley Park mansion on Thursday, NBC Washington reported.

The Savopoulos’ two daughters, Katerina and Abigail, were reportedly at boarding school at the time of the fire.

Inside their charred house, authorities found three of the four bodies had suffered stab wounds. Sources told NBC that the family had been “bound and threatened” for an entire day before the house was set on fire. Sources also said the suspects likely knew their captors, as there was no sign of forced entry at the house.

On Monday, the family’s blue Porsche, which had been torched, was discovered in the parking lot of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Lanham, Maryland. A short distance away from the scene a camera caught footage of one person of interest, a hooded character carrying a bucket. The person has not yet been identified, according to NBC.

Debra Ann Masser, Savvas Savopoulos' sister, told The Washington Post that she spoke to her brother on Thursday morning and nothing seemed wrong.

“I can’t even express my sorrow,” she said. “I can’t even say anything.”

Nearby residents of the neighborhood pointed to the family’s vast and expensive art collection as a possible motive. However, sources also told WUSA9 that money had been discovered missing, though that has not yet been confirmed.

"The community where they lived really loved them," friend Coco Palomeque told The Post. They were "a beautiful family."
