The $20 bill, not the $10 bill, will feature a woman on it, a senior government source recently revealed, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew appears to be close to making an official announcement.

Lew said last June that a woman would be joining Alexander Hamilton on a newly redesigned $10 bill, but pro-Hamilton forces, inspired by the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton," have championed a renewed and somewhat protective interest in the late Founding Father, noted CBS News.

In a sign of just how popular it's become, "Hamilton," the sold out hip-hop musical that retells the story of America's first treasury secretary, was honored with a Pulitzer Prize for drama on Monday, wrote The New York Times.

Lew reportedly plans to announce that he will replace former President Andrew Jackson, a Democrat, on the $20 bill instead of Hamilton. The replacement bill will likely take more than a decade before being issued to the public, however.

"The soonest that a new $20 note will be issued is 2030," the source told CNN, pointing to a lengthy redesign process created to prevent counterfeiting. That process includes representatives from the U.S. Secret Service, the Treasury, and the Federal Reserve.

"The blue security ribbon on the $100 note took over 15 years to develop," the source said. "This level of technology is why our counterfeiting remains at less than .01 percent of currency in circulation. We should not expedite the issuance of any currency for political purposes."

The grassroots organization Women On 20s, which had been advocating for more than a year to place a woman on America's paper currency, charged on its website on Sunday that the change on the $20 bill should come sooner.

"We'd like to take credit for what seems like a great victory for our cause to get a woman on the $20 bill, but we're not there quite yet," said a statement on the Women on 20s website. "…We still have a chance to influence President Obama and Treasury Secretary Lew to fast-track the change to the $20 so women can at last have a bill all their own."

Abolitionist Harriet Tubman won a poll last year over former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt conducted by Women on 20s for the female they would like to see on the $20 bill.
