Turkish Airlines received a bomb threat Monday and immediately diverted a flight to Casablanca in response, although the airline now believes the threat was a hoax.

The company said a piece of paper was found in the airplane restroom with the word “bomb” written on it, The Associated Press reported.

Upon finding the note, Flight TK15, on its way from Instanbul to Sao Paulo, was immediately diverted in what the airline called standard procedure in such situations, the AP said. But after searching the Boeing 777 in Casablanca, the airline said it believed the threat was a hoax.

On Sunday, a flight traveling from Istanbul to Tokyo was also threatened and forced to return to its originating location.

“The airline said it believes the two incidents were unrelated,” the AP said.

As the Turkish airline battled false bomb threats, Virgin Atlantic suffered an embarrassing and costly mistake at the Manchester, England, airport, the Daily Mail reported. An inaugural flight was supposed to be honored with a canon water salute and instead someone accidentally sprayed the plane with foam.

“So instead of pure water splaying down the aircraft, it was fire-suppressing foam which got into and clogged up the vital and sensitive jet engines and hi-tech turbine blades,” the Mail wrote. The plane could not fly and passengers were put up in a hotel overnight until a replacement could arrive.
