President Donald Trump has delayed his United Kingdom state visit from June to October in what may be an attempt to let protests in the country over his travel ban subside.

Trump's trip is currently scheduled for Oct. 5-8, but the days could change, The Sun reported, noting that the president told British Prime Minister Theresa May two weeks ago that he was concerned about the June date.

"Trump still really wants to come this year, but he wants the heat to die down a bit first," a senior U.K. government source told The Sun. "The White House watch what happens over here surprisingly closely and they don't want to create a scene for our sake either."

In February, members of Parliament argued about Trump's trip to the Britain and whether he should be given a full state visit. The Labour Party's Paul Flynn argued that it would it would be "terribly wrong" for the president to visit, while Tory Nigel Evans said that Trump's critics should just "get over it," according to the BBC News.

Parliament would be in recess during the October dates, meaning Trump could avoid addressing lawmakers, USA Today reported. House of Commons speaker John Bercow had pledged to block Trump from addressing Parliament during the state visit.

The Guardian reported last month that the Stop Trump Coalition had hired staff to coordinate continuing protest efforts against the president. Activists, trade union members and some Parliament members had promised a huge protest during Trump's original June visit, according to The Guardian.

"The tens of thousands who have already protested against Trump's visit have had a real effect – Trump's visit will be delayed until at least October to 'let the heat die down,'" a representative for the Stop Trump Coalition said, according to Business Insider.

"But we promise that it's only going to get hotter. The opposition to this state visit, and to Trump's policies, is growing every day. Whether he comes in spring or autumn, or to London, Birmingham or Scotland, we will meet him in huge number to say that the politics of hate and prejudice is not welcome here."
