Tracy Morgan: Alec Baldwin Needs to Apologize If He Used Racial Slur

By    |   Tuesday, 19 Feb 2013 04:17 PM

Actor Tracy Morgan has publicly demanded that his "30 Rock" co-star Alec Baldwin apologize if reports are true that he used racial slurs in a rant to a New York Post photographer.

“If he called somebody a coon, he should apologize,” Morgan said on the Charlotte, N.C. radio station WNKS-FM.

Baldwin allegedly used the epithets “coon” and “drug dealer” to describe African-American news photographer G.N. Miller, a retired decorated New York Police Department detective of nearly 15 years who is on staff at The Post.

Although the derogatory terms evoked an emotional response from Morgan, he prefaced his reaction with the word “if.”

Morgan commented on his fellow cast member’s reported word choices.

“If anyone calls anybody a derogatory statement like coon, this is 2013,” Morgan said. “First of all coon is played out — use a new term. If [he used the term,] I think [Baldwin] should apologize. There’s no excuse. You’re in your 50s."

The confrontation reportedly occurred last Sunday, when Miller was attempting to photograph Baldwin outside the actor’s New York City, East Village apartment.

Baldwin also allegedly called Miller “crackhead” and characterized him on his Twitter page as “Ralston,” but subsequently deleted the tweet.

After a series of 17 tweets, Baldwin has seemingly ceased activity on his Twitter account after the controversy.

“Here is a tweet that will take me to 10,000 tweets and then I think I might take some time to do other things in this life,” he posted.

Baldwin has denied allegations from The Post photographer that he used racial slurs and said it is “ironic” that anyone would believe the accusation, since some of his foundation’s grants have benefited African-Americans, including a $50,000 grant for the Arthur Ashe Learning Center.

There are no racial slurs audible on the recording of Baldwin’s encounter with the photographer, according UPI. Reportedly, the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has launched an investigation into the matter.
