Tornado: Mississippi Sees Six Twisters as Storms Batter State

Tornadoes were reported in Mississippi over the weekend as an onslaught of storms battered the state just two weeks after five people were killed by December tornadoes.

The Jackson, Mississippi, National Weather Service station reported on Sunday that six tornadoes were tracked in the storm.

The severe weather hit parts of the state Saturday, but no injuries were reported, Greg Flynn of Mississippi’s Emergency Management Agency told CBS News.

Winds and heavy rains downed trees and power lines, with tornado and flood watches popping up in Mississippi and Louisiana, CBS said. Four trailers were damaged in the storm.

The heavy rain raised the issue of flash flooding, and the state remained on alert for possible dangerous conditions.

The storm followed a horrific system that moved through Louisiana and Mississippi and affected other areas in the south right before Christmas. On Dec. 23, it did a tremendous amount of property damage and spawned six tornadoes that killed five people and injured 50 or more.

Photos of the damaged trailers from Saturday’s storm were posted online, cautioning anyone who lives in a trailer to seek cover if a storm is coming.
