Tim Tebow: Many Say QB's NFL Career Is Over, but Dad Says No

By    |   Tuesday, 04 Jun 2013 11:28 AM

As speculation flies on who Tim Tebow will play for next season, the free agent and former Jets player is remaining tight-lipped about his future, but his dad says his NFL career isn’t over yet.

Tebow, who has a Heisman Trophy and as many playoff wins as quarterback as the Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo, is still a free agent, and with preseason less than two months away, it doesn't appear he is headed anywhere.

Tebow, who was the New York Jets' backup quarterback last season, has remained silent on the matter. His father came to his defense recently, after an ESPN magazine report came out claiming Tebow's football career is over.

"You are old enough to not believe all you hear," Bob Tebow told NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport when asked about the report.

David Fleming, of ESPN The Magazine, wrote a column on May 30 explaining why it may be the end of the road for the popular, but low-rated signal caller.

"Even now, after Tebow cleared waivers unclaimed and with members of his camp privately admitting that his NFL run is probably over, the football world remains as divided as ever over him. It's nearly impossible to find a teammate who will say anything bad about Tebow as a person – or a scout who will say anything good about him as a player. But the sports masses mostly side with the NFL personnel people. It's embarrassing and exhausting to discuss him, which makes it official: Tim Tebow has jumped the shark," Fleming wrote.

Tebow, who has avoided interviews on the subject, is smart to keep quiet, Bleacher Report's Jesse Reed said.

"Tebow himself has been as quiet as a church mouse, and it seems safe to assume he's spending his days training in the hopes of landing a roster spot this summer," Reed said in a recent column. "Tebow couldn't chose a better tactic with which to combat his unique challenge. Part of the reason Tebow doesn't have a job right now is that he isn't an efficient quarterback. Throughout his three-year career, he has completed 47.9 percent of his passes, has only thrown 17 touchdown passes and has accumulated a passer rating of 75.3 in 16 starts."
