Tim Tebow started off his minor league baseball career with a homer, and Twitter went wild with jokes and commentary about the former NFL quarterback-turned-baseball prospect.

A sold-out crowd of 8,412 filled Spirit Communications Park in Columbia, South Carolina, Thursday and witnessed Tebow's two-run homer for the Single-A Columbia Fireflies, Sporting News reported.

It was Tebow's only hit in the Fireflies' 14-7 victory over the Augusta Greenjackets.

"It felt really good," Tebow said of the homerun afterward, according the sports content firm. "I just wanted to make contact and drive the ball. I thought I had a double, but the umpire said keep going. I was like, 'All right. I'll take it.'"

"You definitely envision your first at-bat. I try to visualize every at-bat. As an athlete that's what you do — you see yourself doing it and maximize every opportunity. I was able to make the most of my first at-bat," he continued.

The State newspaper said that reporters from the ESPN, The New York Times, and New York Post attended the game to cover Tebow's Minor League debut, while fans gave him a large ovation when he took the field for warm-ups and game introductions.

Tebow also signed autographs and talked to Little League players who were on the field before the contest.

Reaction on social media was mixed about Tebow's good start in the minors.
