Tiger Loose Near Paris – But Don't Try to Run Away From It?

A tiger on the loose near Paris is panicking residents who have been advised to stay indoors until city officials either find the animal or assess the danger level – and don't run if it approaches you.

A woman first spotted the tiger in a supermarket car park in Montevrain on Thursday afternoon and took a picture of the animal, according to the BBC News. Motevrain official posted the photo on a Facebook page after other residents came forward to report seeing the animal as well.

Montevrain officials said there is a big cat park near the city but it's not clear that's where the tiger came from. Le Parisein newspaper quoted specialists saying as saying the tiger appears to be a younger cat.

One local newspaper was able to take a photograph of a footprint of the tiger near the supermarket where it was first spotted.

The Mirror reported that helicopters and armed firefighters have joined in the search for the tiger in the Seine-et-Marne district.

Pinder Circus's Frederic Edelstein suggested that residents not to run away from the tiger if they see it, reported the newspaper.

"In this case, its instinct would be to chase after its prey," Edelstein said. "If you see it coming towards you, make as much noise as you can in order to frighten it. If this doesn't work, you should start waving your arms, but without moving away, or it will only move closer.

"The main worry is that it starts to get hungry. In this case it could attack its prey, be that a dog, a cow or a goat. It is most likely that it will find its way to a farm where its predatory instincts will take over," Edelstein added.
