A Texas teen died of electrocution Sunday morning when she apparently used her cell phone while taking a bath.

Madison Coe either tried to plug in her phone while in the tub at her father’s house in Lovington, New Mexico, or grabbed her plugged-in, charging phone, KCBD reported.

Coe had recently graduated from eighth grade at Terra Vista Middle School in Lubbock, Texas, where she played basketball and was first chair tuba in the band, KCBD reported.

Coe’s grandmother, Donna O’Guinn, described the teen as “very smart” and said she “just loved life,” KCBD reported. “She was just sweet to everybody and everybody loved her.”

O’Guinn said the family hopes Coe’s death will make people more aware of the dangers of using a cell phone in the bathtub.

“This is such a tragedy that doesn’t need to happen to anyone else,” O’Guinn said, KCBD reported. “And we want something good to come out of this as awareness of not using your cell phone in the bathroom as it is plugged in and charging.”

Spokesperson for the Consumer Product Safety Commission Patty Davis said the commission is investigating the incident, according to USA Today.

Memorial services will be held in both Lovington and Lubbock, USA Today said, and a GoFundMe page created for funeral expenses has raised more than $7,000.

Twitter is already warning people not to use plugged-in phones in the bath tub, with one person admitting to using hers in the shower, but not plugged in.
