A suspect in the Texas campsite killings over the weekend has been arrested and charged with murdering six people, though police have not yet pinpointed a motive.

William Hudson, 33, was arrested on suspicion of all six murders that occurred on the campsite in Anderson County roughly 100 miles from Dallas over the weekend, according to Fox News. The local authorities were first alerted to the tragedy when massacre survivor Cynthia Johnson managed to call 911 from a main road after allegedly hiding while the killings took place.

Hudson has been charged with one count of murder and is being held on a $2.5 million bond. Police are expected to file more charges, Fox noted.

Six victims were killed on Sunday, including a 6-year-old boy. The bodies of a man and a woman were found inside a nearby trailer, and the four other bodies were discovered in a nearby pond, Fox News reported.

When the local police arrived at the scene of what is believed to be a possible shooting on Sunday morning, they identified the six victims as Cynthia Johnson’s husband, Carl, 77; her daughter Hannah, as well as Hannah’s boyfriend, Thomas Karp; her son; and two others believed to be Karp’s older children, according to The Washington Post. Most of the victims had recently moved to Texas from Maine, and Carl and Cynthia Johnson were former employees of the University of Maine at Farmington before their retirement to Texas.

The Texas officers have been left blindsided by the massacre with no apparent motive and very few details concerning the deaths themselves, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor stated, according to CNN.

“This is the largest [homicide] I’ve seen in Anderson County,” Taylor told CBS 19. “It spans from the area of the travel trailer to a residence that is west of there, and another residence west of there. They are all in line with each other on that road.”

This is not the first time that Hudson, who was arrested at his mother’s home next door to the campsite, has run into trouble with the law. Taylor noted that, several weeks ago, Hudson was investigated in connection to another assault.

“He was violent," Taylor said of Hudson, "but it wasn't of this nature,” Fox News reported.
