A teen who was stuck in a Barney the Dinosaur head for 45 minutes is getting her 15 minutes of fame after her story of getting beheaded by firefighters made national news and went viral on social media, reported AL.com.

Darby Risner, 15, and a group of friends attended a party at a church in Trussville, Alabama on Sunday when she found the head of the Barney costume, according to AL.com. The church's pastor had purchased the costume head several years ago at a going-out-of-business sale.

"Darby thought, 'I'm going to scare them when they come downstairs,''' her mother Audrey Shannon told AL.com. "She put the Barney head on and when she sat down on the sofa to wait for them, it dropped. It slipped over her shoulders. When they finally came down, she got up and realized it had dropped so low, she couldn't get it off. It was digging into her."

Risner told WVTM-TV how her friends tried to get the head off of her.

"They laid me down on the floor and Meredith took my feet and Sam took the head and they both pulled opposite directions," Darby told the television station.

The girls and Risner's family called Trussville Fire and Rescue for help and decided to travel to the nearby firehouse where Lt. Vince Bruno admitted that he was a little amused.

"When she first got there, we looked at it and it was tight," Bruno told WVTM-TV. "It had come down around her shoulders and was holding her arms, which looked kind of like dinosaur arms because she could bend from the elbows down, and it was little comical."

After the firefighters failed to pull the head off, they used a combination of Vaseline along the shoulders as well as making some release cuts in the head to relieve the pressure inside, wrote AL.com. That did the trick and they were able to remove the costume's head, noted the website.

"It was such a relief,'' Risner told AL.com. "I have laughed about it."

The teenager's 45-minute ordeal inside the Barney head had since gone viral and has been featured on NBC News, Us Weekly, New York Magazine and the "Today" show, according to AL.com.

"It's crazy,'' Shannon told the website of the media attention.

Risner found plenty of support and humor online.
