Taya Kyle, the widow of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle, testified in the murder trial of Eddie Ray Routh on Wednesday, wiping away tears as she described the day her husband was killed.

"I’m sorry, I’m not nervous," she told the court, according to The Washington Post. "I’m just emotional."

Taya, 40, recounted for the jury that her husband periodically took veterans affected by PTSD to the Rough Creek Lodge and Resort, southwest of Dallas, after he retired from the military in 2009. He helped design a 1,000-yard rifle range there, and he found being in nature was good for returning soldiers.

Routh's mother had requested that Kyle take her son on one of the trips, and he consented. They scheduled the trip for Feb. 2, 2013.

At the range, Routh shot and killed Kyle and Kyle's friend, Chris Littlefield.

Taya Kyle said she had taken her daughter to build a teddy bear while the guys went to the range. She and her husband spoke via cell phone shortly before he was killed. She said she could sense something was wrong when they spoke.

After Chris failed to respond to subsequent text message, the mother of two began to grow worried. A police officer soon showed up to her house and informed her that her husband was dead.

As photos of the Kyle family were shown to the court, Taya wept.

In one photo Chris was seen hiding Easter eggs for his son and daughter in 2012. In another photo from 2005, the couple is pictured with their son, who is now 10 years old.

"That’s Chris and me and our son, and I had just found out I was pregnant," she said, referring to the photo. She would soon have her second child, a daughter who is now 8.
