Sydney station police shot and killed a man outside of the city's Central Station on Wednesday night in what some reports are categorizing as an intentional suicide by police, while others are calling it an armed robbery gone wrong.

Witnesses say the suspect drew a pair of scissors on an elderly florist shopkeeper and said "shoot me" to officers, the Daily Mail reported.

“A man came from nowhere. He tried to grab an old man, the florist owner, and he was pulling him and yelling at him. I said, ‘What the f*** do you want?’ and he said, ‘I just want to die,’” witness Nathan Yin told news.com.au.

The man, who appeared to be Asian, then fled from the store toward police, witnesses said. That's when the cops opened fire.

“The man, I think he was holding scissors and trying to grab police and the police have shot him. Three or four gun shots," Yin said. “I was right there and I tried to escape the gunfire. I saw him go down. I think he got hit all over the body and he went down straight away.”

According to The Guardian, there are also reports that the man was attempting an armed robbery of the flower shop prior to the shooting.

"When police arrived and told him to drop his weapon, he did not respond and was shot three or four times at close range," the news site reported, citing eyewitness accounts.

“A critical incident investigation will now examine all circumstances surrounding the incident,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
