Storm Cancels 2,000 Flights and More As It Pummels Chicago, Boston

By    |   Monday, 02 Feb 2015 05:36 PM

Winter Storm Linus canceled more than 2,000 flights, most in and out of Chicago, on Sunday as it moved East to wreak havoc on the Boston area, which has barely dug out from last week's snowstorm.

Parts of the Windy City got as much as 22 inches of snow from the storm as it moved northeast after smashing through the Midwest on Friday through Sunday.

At least six deaths are blamed on the storm.

Linus was the second “monster storm” to hit Boston in the last week, and with a total of about 34.1 inches of snow since Tuesday, it was the snowiest week on record for the city since 1891.

The storm is supposed to begin petering out Monday night and end by Tuesday.

But news of another storm brewing over the ocean means the Boston area could get even more snow, AccuWeather meteorologist Mark Paquette told USA Today.

Meanwhile, the Boston area didn’t get much time for Super Bowl celebrations before Linus brought the city to a halt.

In Chicago, USA Today said drifts three or so feet high made moving around difficult, and the Cook County Sheriff had to lock down the jail because 36 percent of staff couldn’t make it in to work.

A few were able to make some bucks on the storm, USA Today said. One man towing stuck cars told the newspaper he made $60 in just a "few minutes of work." "Chicagoans, if they got to go to work or be somewhere, they'll do what they have to do," said Jerald Bennett. "They're not going to let snow stop them."
