Steve Carell's 'Sexual Healing' Lives On After 'Tonight' (Video)

Steve Carell's humorous and surprisingly harmonious barbershop quartet rendition of Marvin Gaye's soul classic "Sexual Healing" continues to grab eyeballs long after his "The Tonight Show" appearance on Wednesday.

The Ragtime Gals version of "Sexual Healing" has already produced 1.5 million views on YouTube since it was posted, making "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon's barbershop quartet skit one of the most successful so far, according to The Huffington Post.

"Jimmy Fallon always has a trick up his sleeve, and on Wednesday, he surprised guests by bringing Steve Carell out to perform Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing' with Fallon's barbershop quartet," wrote Lorena O'Neil of The Hollywood Reporter. "The result is as hilariously ridiculous as one would expect, and Carell's entrance is perfect …"

This is a different take from the original Gaye song that hit the charts in 1982, according to the "Today" show.

Time magazine's Eliza Berman wrote that the fun in the song's parody is embedded in the contrasting styles that go against the grain of the song's origins.

"Running this song through the barbershop wringer extracts pretty much all of its soul – and sexiness, for that matter – and that seems to be the idea," Berman wrote. "The Ragtime Gals, as the group is known, has de-sexed such songs as 'Ignition,' 'I Wanna Sex You Up,' 'SexyBack' – the latter featuring its original singer, Justin Timberlake.

"It's all part of the 'friendly fun house' to which Entertainment Weekly attributes Fallon's successful takeover of 'The Tonight Show," earning him the much-deserved title of 'Entertainer of the Year,'" Berman continued.

Carell, who won a television Golden Globe in 2006 for best actor in a comedy series for his role in "The Office," has earned his first nomination for a dramatic role in a movie with a Golden Globe nomination on Thursday for his lead role in the movie "Foxcatcher."

In a role that has also created plenty of Academy Award buzz, Carell portrays eccentric billionaire John du Pont in "Foxcatcher." It's based on a true story of an Olympic wrestling training facility he created on his estate where he serves as a coach to world-class athletes before being convicted of murdering one of the wrestlers, according to the Los Angeles Times.
