Sophie Turner Rape Scene in 'Game of Thrones' Draws Gasps

Sophie Turner said her rape scene on Sunday night’s episode of “Game of Thrones” was “messed up,” but admitted she “kinda love it.” Fans, however, were appalled.

The 19-year-old actress, who plays Sansa Stark on the HBO favorite, told Entertainment Weekly back in October that when she first got the script, she found it a little "daunting." In the rape scene, her character was depicted as being assaulted by her new husband Ramsay Bolton, played by Iwan Rheon, while Bolton’s human pet and Stark’s former brother figure Theon Greyjoy, played by Alfie Allen, watched.

“It’s also so daunting for me to do it,” Turner said in the interview released this week. “I’ve been making [producer Bryan Cogman] feel so bad for writing that scene: ‘I can’t believe you’re doing this to me!’ But I secretly loved it.”

From what Turner said, it does not sound as though the Lady of Winterfall’s happy ending will be coming true soon, but she is in a place to recover her homeland.

“I love the fact she's back home reclaiming what's hers,” Turner said. “But at the same time she's being held prisoner in her own home.”

Some fans, however, were so horrified by the scene that they say they will no longer watch the show.

Cogman told EW in a separate interview that "Game of Thrones" and the rape scene is not for the faint heart.

“This is a hardened woman making a choice and she sees this as the way to get back her homeland,” Cogman said. “Sansa has a wedding night in the sense she never thought she would with one of the monsters of the show. It’s pretty intense and awful and the character will have to deal with it.”
