Soul Singer Sharon Jones is undergoing chemotherapy treatment following her recent surgery after she was diagnosed with a stage one tumor on a bile duct earlier this year.

On Friday, Jones took to her Facebook page to inform her fans about the chemotherapy.

"Although my surgery to remove my cancer in June was successful, my doctor recommended that I do a 6 month course of preventative chemotherapy, which I started a month ago," Jones wrote on Facebook.

"I wish I could say its been a breeze, but this is looking to be the most challenging part yet," Jones added. "Thankfully, I'm feeling stronger and more focused on getting back out on stage every day. I want you all to know that YOU are the reason why I am so motivated and driven to stay healthy and work through my recovery. Can't wait to see you all soon!"

The 57-year-old musician who was born in Augusta, Ga., but moved to New York City at an early age, had cancelled a number of summer shows with her band "Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings," after learning of her diagnosis earlier this year.

Following her June surgery to remove the growth, Jones again shared her health status with her fans, this time on Twitter.

Jones is expected to make a full recovery, according to a press release from the band, due to the fact that the doctors caught the tumor early and the cancer had yet to spread.

Despite having been a singer from an early age, Jones only broke through in recent years with songs such as "100 Days, 100 Nights," and 'If You Call."

Jones' strong soulful and at times funky sound has been heard in numerous feature films, including "Stand Up Guys," "Colored Girls," "Up in the Air," and "The Great Debaters."
