The Seattle Seahawks reportedly are planning a national anthem demonstration during their season opener Sunday. The highly anticipated move is the latest in the national controversy sparked when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat during the national anthem on Aug. 28 in a protest against social injustice.

Seahawks defensive back Jeremy Lane sat down during the national anthem before Seattle’s final preseason game last week against the Oakland Raiders, according to The Huffington Post. That has sparked something much greater among the team, and they reportedly plan to do “something” Sunday, and that something is not football related.

Seahawks veteran wide receiver Doug Baldwin told The Seattle Times on Wednesday that he has considered sitting for the national anthem.

“I have [considered it],” Baldwin said. “I want to make sure I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so.”

It’s not clear as to whether those “ducks” are his teammates or if they’re unanswered questions regarding the national anthem and what it represents for him.

Baldwin posted about the team's plans on Twitter.

Baldwin wasn’t the only Seahawk to speak on this matter. Linebacker Bobby Wagner told the Times that he’s ready to do whatever the team decides to do.

“It’s not going to be individual. It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals,” Wagner said.

He added that whatever happens Sunday is going to be “a big surprise.”

Lane said he plans to continue sitting through the national anthem, and he has the support of his head coach, Pete Carroll.

“This is a very interesting issue that we’re dealing with right now,” Carroll told reporters, according to a story on the Seahawks website. “Our team has been working at it and we’ve been in the process of communicating about a lot of stuff right now. That was an individual thing, but I’m really proud of the progress we’re making in the conversation and I look forward to continuing it with our guys.”

Many Twitter users have posted in anticipation of the Seahawks' demonstration.
