Sean Spicer had a mixed reaction to a surprise "SNL" skit in which Melissa McCarthy put on a wig and imitated his no-nonsense, sometimes blustery demeanor.

In an interview with ExtraTV on Sunday, Spicer said he thought the "Saturday Night Live" episode was "funny" but the impression a little too exaggerated, saying McCarthy "could dial back" some.

In the spoof, McCarthy refused to answer questions, berated reporters, and threatened to put them in the corner with CNN, depicted behind bars. When challenged, her Spicer took the podium and charged the reporter with it angrily.

"It was cute. It’s funny," Spicer said on "Fox & Friends." "I'd rather us be talking about the issues that the president is so committed to helping Americans on — but, you know, it’s part of American culture."

News outlets such as The Daily Beast and Slate ran headlines that suggested Spicer called McCarthy’s portrayal of him “mean,” but that comment was actually referring to Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of President Donald Trump.

The Twitter community almost unanimously enjoyed McCarthy’s sketch, finding it much funnier than Baldwin’s recent portrayals of Trump.
