Saudi Princess Hotel Bill Worth $7 Million Skipped Out On?

A Saudi princess who apparently tried to skip out on a $7 million hotel bill in Paris in 2012 reportedly also tried to avoid paying a $20 million tab after a crazy shopping spree three years before.

Vanity Fair’s James Reginato delved into the buying habits of Princess Maha bint Mohammed bin Ahmad al-Sudairi, tracking unpaid bills that amounted to millions of dollars.

Her five-month stay at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, which included 41 rooms for her entourage, ended with a $7 million bill, but it’s the $20 million shopping spree that leaves jaws gaping.

“Perhaps Princess Maha thought she could slip away (from the hotel) because just three years earlier in Paris, according to press accounts, she almost succeeded in ducking out on a $20 million tab during an epic shopping spree through the boutiques of the Avenue Montaigne, the Place Vendôme, and elsewhere,” Reginato wrote. “When it came time to ring up her purchases, Princess Maha reportedly shunned the usual payment methods, instead having a minion hand the merchant an embossed document stating, ‘Payment to follow’ — a very fancy I.O.U.”

At least one storeowner, from the O Caprices de Lili, a lingerie store, told Reginato that Maha’s bills were paid for about eight years, and then payments just stopped coming. The princess’ outstanding bill there was reportedly $100,000.

A press representative for the hotel said the Saudi princess' bill was paid within 48 hours.

King Abdullah was "unamused" by the princess' behavior, Reginato wrote.

The third of Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-Saud’s three wives, Maha was married for 30 years before “parting ways” with her spouse, Vanity Fair said.

In 2013, Maha was accused of trying to duck out on a $2 million bill from a luxury car company and its subcontractors that she used while staying at the Shangri-La. The company director told ABC News he never received payment.

Sarkis Sarkis of Cinquieme Etoile said, "We called everybody. I had an appointment with a military officer here at the embassy and tried to see the ambassador, but no one wants to talk to us. Nobody cares."
