Sarah Jessica Parker may be coming back to television screens in "Busted," a new crime drama from the producers of "True Detective" based on a nonfiction book about police corruption in Philadelphia.

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Anonymous Content are teaming up to make the new series, which is adapted from "Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love," a book by reporters Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker. The authors received a Pulitzer Prize for their series ferretting out police corruption.

So Parker’s television return may place her right back in the role of reporter, although the new role would be a far cry from the sex columnist she played on the popular HBO series "Sex and the City."

"Wendy and Barbara have written an amazing true story, and we’re thrilled for it to be SKE’s first television project," SKE president Jim Tauber and president of production Carla Hacken said in a statement. "Sarah Jessica’s coming on board, along with David Frankel and Don Roos is simply a perfect combination that we couldn’t be happier about."

Frankel, of "The Devil Wears Prada," "Marley & Me" and "Hope Springs" fame, will direct, Variety said, and Don Ross will pen the show’s pilot.

Fans of the "Sex and the City" actress applaud her return to TV. This will be her first protagonist role since that popular sitcom ended.

"The question is will she be wearing Manolos or not?!" a commenter asked on an Us Weekly article, but conceded the point when someone else pointed out that if she wore the high-class heels, it would "just be Carrie trying to be a detective." Carrie Bradshaw was Parker’s "SATC" persona.

"I would like to see Sarah in a more dramatic role. She's been doing romantic comedy movies and sitcoms for so long. Something different with her personality would be cool," another wrote, but at least one person expressed concern for the switch from comedy.

"Crime drama is not right for her. Comedy is more her thing," the commenter said.
