During a practice round for the Ryder Cup on Thursday, a heckler ribbing the European team got the chance to put his money where his mouth was — and won $100 while he was at it.

American David Johnson was watching the warmups at Hazeltine when he saw Rory McIlroy and Andy Sullivan of the European team repeatedly miss a putt on the eighth green. Each competitor missed the shot six times in a row, in fact.

When Johnson yelled from behind the ropes that he could make the putt, teammate Henrik Stenson bet Johnson $100 that he couldn’t make the shot.

Justin Rose laid a $100 bill on the grass next to the ball and let Johnson take a swing.

Johnson did sink the putt, and the crowd erupted in celebration.

It was a great moment for Johnson, who is an avid golfing fan. “It was one of those roars,” heckler Johnson told ABC News. “I just soaked it in and enjoyed every minute of it.”

"All credit to him — Rosie put $100 down and the guy drilled it in the center," Stenson said, according to the Ryder Cup website. "He would have been chipping if it didn’t go in, but all credit to him for making it."

When asked how he did it, USA Today reported Johnson said, “I closed my eyes, swallowed my puke, hit the putt and it happened to go in.”

Johnson, who is from North Dakota, enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame and plans to frame the $100 bill and hang it on his wall. Team Europe also signed the winning ball for Johnson.

The Ryder Cup competition begins Friday.
