Russell Taylor, Jared Fogle's kiddie porn accomplice and former leader of the Subway pitchman's foundation, was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison Thursday even after he pleaded with the judge not to let him "rot in a landfill of lost souls."

Though the sentence will keep the 44-year-old locked up at least until he is at least 65, it is eight years less than what federal prosecutors had recommended for his conviction on 12 counts of producing child pornography and one count of distributing it, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Prosecutors say Taylor set up hidden cameras and photographed children, some as young as nine, in the bathroom as they undressed or bathed. He then shared those images and others from the Internet with Fogle, The Star noted. After raiding Taylor's home in April, law enforcement officials reportedly found more than 400 sexually explicit photos and videos of children.

"I've been falling asleep in a puddle of tears every night . . . crying out to God," Taylor tearfully told federal Judge Tanya Walton Pratt during sentencing. "I'm begging for mercy for a lenient sentence . . . Please do not leave me to rot in a landfill of lost souls."

Taylor told the court that he has been "internationally disgraced" and wanted to now work as an advocate against child pornography. He depicted himself a victim of child abuse and Fogle as a controlling friend and boss, The Star noted.

In defense testimony, psychologist Robin Kohli said that Taylor told her that he produced child porn only to satisfy Fogle and that he was not sexually attracted to children, according to Fox59.com.

Kohli even argued that Taylor may have been showing some symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome because of his willingness to do anything to protect Fogle.

While Pratt rejected much of the defense's argument, she credited Taylor for cooperating with law enforcement to get Fogle "off the streets," according to The Star.

Fogle was sentenced in November to 15 years and eight months in prison for possession of child pornography and traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor, People magazine reported. He was also ordered to pay $1.4 million to 14 victims.
