Royal Dress Code for Kate's NYC Visit Includes the Sloppy Press

The royal dress code is causing quite a stir among American reporters as they prepare for a visit from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Politico reported that Buckingham Palace has gone so far as to release a set of guidelines for those seeking to cover the couple's trip on Dec. 7 and 8. As they always have, the fops across the pond continue to fret over the slovenliness of their scions.

"Casually dressed members of the media will be turned away," the guidelines warn. "Out of respect for the guests of The Queen, or any other member of the Royal Family," reporters should dress in "smart attire," which includes a jacket and tie for men, and a "trouser of skirt suit" for women.

"Journalists wishing to cover Royal engagements, whether in the United Kingdom or abroad, should comply with the dress code," it says in closing. "This also applies to technicians." Even the camera people have to wear suits!

During their visit to the Empire State, the royal couple, big with child, will visit the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. While William heads off to Washington D.C. for an anti-poaching conference, Middleton will tour a child development center in New York with the city's First Lady Chirlane McCray.

The couple will also attend a basketball game, and are rumored to be meeting Jay-Z and Beyonce.

It remains unclear if baby Prince George will be visiting America with mom and dad.
