Royal Baby Photos Might Be Taken, Released by Family to Keep It Low-Key

Kate Middleton and Prince William, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, may choose not to commission an official portrait of the royal baby, instead releasing their own photographs of the famous child.

“One of the options that they are looking at is releasing a couple of family photos that they have taken themselves,” a royal source told the Daily Mirror. “Kate has a great eye for pictures and wants the first official ones of George to be natural and in a relaxed environment.”

The first authorized photos of the royal baby may be taken by Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton, or her grandparents Michael and Carole Middleton.

Photos of Prince George, the newborn son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, are expected to be released within the next few days. The Christian Post noted those coveted images are expected to shatter Twitter records for most retweets of all time. Currently, a photo of President Obama hugging Michelle Obama that was posted just after he was re-elected holds the record for most retweets, at more than 500,000.

The photos also should power a surge in sales for magazines like People. In fact, People magazine’s Aug. 5 issue that featured a picture of Prince George on the cover was the best-selling issue this year.

“There’s definitely been a royal baby boom," Mike Steele, editor in chief of Us Weekly, told The Christian Post. “Our readers love Will and Kate. They’re unique among public figures because they’re 100 percent likable.”

The only photos of Prince George that have been released to the public were those snapped after he was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, the same place Princess Diana gave birth to William in 1982. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been staying at the Middleton family home since leaving the hospital.
