Robert Downey Jr. Gifts Bionic Iron Man Arm to 7-Year-Old Boy

Robert Downey Jr. gave a bionic Iron Man arm to 7-year-old Alex, a boy who was born with a partially developed right arm and who loves superheroes.

In a video, Alex exchanges shy smiles and sideways looks at Downey as they open two metal cases and compare their bionic arms.

The Iron Man arm was created by Limbitless, a non-profit organization that creates specially designed 3-D printed bionic limbs at a low cost.

College student Albert Manero volunteers his time with the organization to build the bionic limbs, and Downey and Alex came together through Microsoft’s Collective Project, ABC News said.

On the video, Alex is quiet and shy, but he is clear that his new bionic limb might give Iron Man’s a run for his money. As the two put their limbs on, Downey said, “I'm having a technical glitch," and points to a light flashing on the palm of his Iron Man limb.

“Half the time I design one of these, it winds up breaking on me. But what I do is I keep working on it, kind of like you're working on it with Albert," Downey told the boy.

"He keeps working and working until he gets it right," Alex replied.

Downey praised Manero’s work and the way he made Alex’s bionic limb affordable. “I feel like he could cut down the price point on one of my suits, which is I guess about now a billion and a half dollars," he said.
