Actor Rob Lowe and his family had to be rescued in France this week after severe flooding in the southeastern part of the country cut their vacation short.

The actor was staying in Grasse, France, when floodwaters swamped the area Wednesday morning, according to WENN.com. Some places near where Lowe stayed received the equivalent of three months' rainfall in just four hours, the network reported.

The Lowe family was eventually rescued from the quickly rising floodwater, and the former "West Wing" star posted a photo on Instagram — which appears to have now been taken down — of wife Sheryl Berkoff hugging one of the rescuers.

"My wife being rescued this am (morning) in the horrific flooding in Grasse France," Lowe captioned the now-deleted picture, according to WENN. "Glad we are safe. Grateful to first responders."

Lowe posted another photo on Instagram Wednesday of the rushing floodwaters with the caption: "This is right outside the house. Was twice as high at the worst, just before sunrise."

Lowe's 19-year-old son Johnny posted a photo on Twitter and then a short video on Instagram showing the floodwaters with the caption: "That's the first floor of our house submerged. Scariest hour or so of my life, also sorry for the explicit language. #theboyssurviveaflood."

Lowe has played Chris Traeger in the popular NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation" since 2010. He also had a recurring role as Eddie Nero in the long-running Showtime series "Californication."

Lowe has also had his share of playing political figures, first as a White House communications specialist in "The West Wing" from 1999 to 2006, and later as a senator opposite Calista Flockhart in the television series "Brothers & Sisters" from 2006 to 2010. He also portrayed President John F. Kennedy in the television movie "Killing Kennedy" last year.
